Flanger is a sound effect that uses a delay line to create a floating sequence of peaks and valleys (comb) in the spectrum. Flanger is a very interesting effect that resembles a phaser in principle with the only difference that the phaser has a much shorter delay time (within the period of the sound wave). Perceptually, these two effects are very similar. The main difference between a flanger and a phaser is that the first copy delay time and the change in signal frequencies are much larger than for the second. In fact, a phaser can be considered an extreme case of a flanger. The flanger effect sounds like an airplane taking off, or imagine a sound whirlpool. It is most commonly used to perform psychedelic music. By adjusting the various parameters, you can achieve a dense and rich unusual sound.
